My 1/17/00 Finds

Well, as cold as it was, we just had to hit the woods today. Went down to Lousia County to a dug out South Carolina camp first.

An old road bed with the camp behind it.

Eddie dug a round ball, Terry dug a 3 ringer and I dug the above. This camp was "really" dug out....
No, that's not a Rosette but should have been a SC Breast Plate.... :)

The second place we hunted was near the railroad tracks. In a field, Eddie dug a suspender clip and a 1 piece "Flower Button. Terry and I headed into some thick pines but other than a neck full of pine needles, we got zilch.
We now went to our third and final spot for the day. This spot turned out to be much better than the first two. Above is a photo of Eddie in the middle of the woods.

And a photo of Terry.

My first signal was a .44 cal pistol ball followed by part of a combination fuse. Terry dug a Gardner and a .44 also. I hit a small spot about 12 feet in diameter and started digging Gardners. I dug about 6 or 7, 1 3-Ringer and 1 Endfield. I called Eddie over so he could dig some. I think he got about 6 or 7 Gardners also. Above is a shot of me digging a Gardner.

2 more photo's of me digging Gardners.

All the bullets I dug.

And the fuse.

Now the big surprize... I started cleaning the bullets to photograph them and when I looked in the base of the Enfield, I thought I was seeing thing......

Never dug an Enfield with anything in the base other than a "57". I don't even think I have an "L2" in my bullet collection. I DO NOW....
When Eddie and Terry find out, guess I know where we will be going back to next Monday.
Until next week...................
